Just because
-Shamael Mortuza
Just because I’m not bleeding,
Doesn’t mean I haven’t been cut deep;
My eyes may be dry,
But my lonely heart still weeps.
Just because you can’t see bruises
Doesn’t mean I’m not injured from abuse.
I’m not in a wheelchair;
Yet I still feel paralyzed – so numb, so sterilized.
Just because I don’t say it,
Don’t think that I don’t care!
Just because I cover up my feelings,
Doesn’t mean that they’re not there.
And it’s true I leave things unspoken
Because I’m afraid of being broken
Affection only ever led to destruction,
Consumed my soul like a giant suction-
So around my heart is where
I’ve built that wall,
So I never, ever have to fall,
But within those walls you would find:
The tears I’ve cried,
All the emotions I chose to hide.
Just because my heart is beating,
Doesn’t mean I haven’t died
A thousand deaths inside.
