The Rise of the Youth in the World

-Sofia Zafrin

“Expect the unexpected and whenever possible, be the unexpected,” said Jack Dorsey, the co-founder of Twitter and Square. We always dream of an unexpected, mesmerizing world after getting up from a tiring sleep or fearsome nightmare. Having said that, whenever we expect a world free of tribulations, it becomes part of a wishful thinking namely, for an Aladin’s magical lamp since nothing can happen unless somebody takes the first step to light the lamp and show the way. We dream of a world full of happiness, amazing events, that there should not be any such evil thing as poverty, disease, corruption, or other disastrous events alike brought about by human beings. In order to achieve this dreamlike reality, it is the youngsters all over the world who are working the most. Youth is the symbol of life and hope. The young generation is full of energy, refreshment, new thoughts, and ideas to turn the otherwise hellish a world into a lively and wonderful place to live in.  This article includes the tales of four youngsters throughout the world whose works have been appreciated simply because of the humanitarian concerns their works demonstrate. Some of their contributions have been described here, in a nutshell:

Mark Zuckerberg

Likes, comments, share, posts- these words are very familiar to us. These words have become very popular because of the magical invention of “Facebook.” Thirty-four years old Mark Zuckerberg is the CEO and co-founder of the social networking website, Facebook who originated the social website at the age of only twenty in 2004. This American youngster is one of the world’s youngest billionaires and also a computer programmer and philanthropist. Facebook has brought the world under one umbrella where everyone can share their unique ideas and get connected to each other for making the world a better place. Our young generation is constantly trying to reach the highest peak of success with revolutionary ideas to polish the underdeveloped sectors of the world and the strongest media for sharing their outstanding works is undoubtedly Facebook.

Other than Facebook, Zuckerberg and his wife Chan donated $120 million dollars to improve the condition of the education sector in neglected rural areas through another organization they created called “Startup: Education” in 2014. In 2010, Zuckerberg made an announcement in Oprah that he was donating $100 million to schools in Newark, New Jersey and he did it. In 2013, Zuckerberg and Chan along with Apple chairman Art Levinson, Google co-founder Sergey Brin, 23andMe CEO Anne Wojcicki, and tech investor Yuri Milner, launched the “Breakthrough Prize in Life Science“ which invested around $3 million dollars for research that helped research works flourish and strengthen human life and cure diseases. In 2014, he along with his wife launched the “Breakthrough Energy Coalition” with Bill Gates to invest in clean-tech companies and produced ideas for alternative energy. At the age of twenty-six, Zuckerberg achieved the place and was declared as “Person of the Year” by Time magazine.

Some days ago, he recorded some videos of Bangladesh when a public movement was going on in the open streets on the demand for secured roads. He published those videos showing the way the young adults raised their voice and were more successful in regulating the traffic across the country than the appointed traffic police. He is on a humanist mission focusing on the people of the world and their accomplishments and sufferings through traveling. He is constantly trying to make people understand the necessity of holding up the internal peace of their own countries. His videos are helping us to be a better human being and also inspiring us to do something to make our lives meaningful and to face and solve the common problems we face on a regular basis regardless of the context. Focusing on the humanitarian attention the world deserves, he attempts to raise awareness among the youngsters of the world.

Benjamin Pasternak

Benjamin Pasternak is an eighteen-year-old Australian entrepreneur who is known as the creator of “Flogg,” a smart-phone app for shopping. He became renowned for his IOS app and game “Impossible Rush” which was released in October 2015 and downloaded over 500,000 times in its first six weeks. It is geometry based which shows the reflex actions of the users. Flogg is an app which is a combination of the features of eBay and Tinder. This app allows the customers to buy and sell things very easily at the tap of a finger. Now, Ben lives in New York and runs his own $2 million company with a seven members’ team who work as part-time job holders. They are mainly teenagers and young people.

He received venture capital in technology at the age of fifteen and was known as the youngest person ever to achieve that point of pride. In 2016, Time magazine declared him as one of the most influential teens. Fortune described him as a young innovator who is changing the world. The app, Flogg has provided an easier lifestyle to most of the people who are into online shopping. Anyone can easily buy or sell things by swiping left or right on the app. He is innovating easier ways to make our lives simpler. His works are very inspiring and the young should learn to utilize their time by investing their creative faculties into accomplishing such unique innovations. Ben is also giving jobs to the teenagers and young people in his company which is a great initiative. Those people have already planned for their careers and are also becoming a part of modern technology. Our world needs more energetic and creative individuals like Ben so that we can make our lives smoother. Unemployment problems can be solved to some extent by such initiatives if they are taken more in number, and the young themselves can be the initiators, as found in this example.

Ayman Sadiq

As for Bangladesh itself, “10 Minute School” has turned out to be one of the most prominent online education sectors within a very short span of time.  Twenty-six years old entrepreneur, Ayman Sadiq is a Bangladeshi public speaker, teacher, and internet personality who is best known around the country for his public project, 10 Minute School. He is a famous personality of Bangladesh and already has gained the attention of the mass media and even the government for his non-profit task. He helped millions of students by uploading short videos on different educational topics that are easily available on Youtube as well as Facebook. He is one of the recipients of 2018 Queen’s Young Leader Award.

In 2014, he launched the 10 Minute School and never had to regret his decision in choosing this platform. This platform is committed to providing training, video lectures and teaching various methods of learning English, Science, Mathematics and other technical skills development. He has achieved several international recognitions. The annual list by Forbes magazine featured him as one of the thirty youngsters from Asia under thirty who are utilizing business strategies to solve the world’s problems. 10 Minute School has not only become the talk of Bangladesh but also it has gained reputation abroad. The admiring feature of it all is that Sadiq does not want a single coin for providing the facilities. He was inspired by a poor student who came to Dhaka to continue his studies but could barely afford the required money. Such a noble initiative has taught us many things. If at least one youth from every country takes such a step to improve the educational sector which is the main infrastructure of a country, it will introduce a revolutionary change throughout the world. Sadiq is, thus, trying to inspire our young generation to do something for the country and for the people.

In sum, success cannot be achieved overnight. Living in an age of glocalization, we need to be more advanced in every possible socio-economic sector which can uplift the world with greater outputs. Young people like them are trying very hard to develop at least one particular sphere they are individually interested in. Our world needs more humans like them so that we can realize the “dream world” in terms of the reality. Therefore, we should be motivated by the rising stars and let them guide us in ways that were never seen before. The administrative authority in each country, hence, should give proper attention to the young of the nation, for there awaits a time of endless potential with the waving flag of the new.
