Walking Down the Memory Lane

DEH is more than just a department to me that has helped me to create an identity of my own. DEH helped me to recognize my capabilities and provided me numerous opportunities to expand my horizons. When I got enrolled in this department, I was really an introverted person and my only focus was study. However, my amazing faculties, supportive seniors, and friendly batchmates encouraged me to take up the opportunities offered by our department to explore my potential. Our department is well known for its experienced faculty members including some of the most renowned professors in the country. Another remarkable aspect of our department is the diverse range of cultural events it organizes which creates a platform for the students to display their talent. Being a student of the department, I was fortunate enough to maintain a balance between academics and extracurricular activities.

Apart from being just a student of the department, my journey towards finding my own identity started through volunteering back in December of 2017. The very first conference I volunteered for was an international conference on “Refugees in Public Imagination” and from where my never-ending volunteering journey for the department began. I was privileged enough to be appreciated by the faculties who were in the event organizing team for my dedication towards work which inspired me to come out of my shell and unlock more possibilities. Another possibility knocked on my door to join the English zone as a peer tutor which eventually became my second home. As a peer tutor, it was an absolute pleasure to work under the guidance of some amazing mentors. I have not only found my passion for teaching in this space but also learned to become a compassionate teacher. While continuing my work as a peer tutor, I came across another great opportunity to join the department as a Teaching Assistant. This opportunity opened a new window of a diverse range of works that helped me to prepare myself for my upcoming professional life. The voluntary experiences, the peer tutoring program, and the Teaching Assistantship program offered by the department helped me to improve my team-building skills. communication skills, management skills, and many more skills to mold me as a better and skillful person for the future.

Moreover, the appreciation I received from my teachers throughout my undergraduate journey always worked as a motivation for me to keep going. Going back to those days, I can recall one of my favorite teachers admiring my good CGPA along with other roles I was playing in the department. On my thesis defense day, when Dr. Shamsad Mortuza sir and Dr. Mahmud Hasan Khan sir said that they are proud of me, my eyes filled with tears of joy. For any student, it’s the greatest achievement to make her teachers feel proud of her work. My heartiest gratitude goes to all my teachers for their immense support and guidance throughout my remarkable journey in the department. The experiences I gathered in the department contributed a lot in bringing out the best in me.

I feel immense pleasure whenever I get the opportunity to talk about my department on any kind of platform. I would highly encourage all my juniors to explore themselves by taking up the numerous opportunities provided by the department along with the excellent academic facilities. Live your undergraduate life to the fullest as a proud DEHian!
