The English Student’s Dilemma

Abrar Farhan Zaman

In the hallowed halls of academia we tread
Where words hold sway, and ideas are fed
But amidst the tomes and the scholarly debate
The English student faces a daunting fate

Assigned essays, our burden to bear
Each word weighed heavy, every argument honed with care
Navigating texts with labyrinthine plot
Plunging into the depths of what we have been taught

The joy of discovery, in every page turned
Yet deadlines loom, and bridges are burned
Essays pile high, in a mountain of stress
As we grapple with meaning, and strive to impress

The poetry sings, in rhythmic refrain
But the job market whispers, with uncertain gain.
Will our love for language, our passion for prose
Lead us to success, or to paths we oppose?

In lecture halls, we ponder and muse
But outside academia, what will we choose?
The world awaits, with its challenges vast
Will our studies prepare us, or leave us surpassed?

Yet amidst the struggle, there’s beauty to find
In the power of words, in the depths of the mind
For English is more than just papers and grades
It’s a journey of learning, through life’s ever-changing shades.

So, though the road may be rocky and steep
We press on with courage, our dreams to keep
For in the end, it’s the love of our craft
That sustains us through hardship and rewrites of our first draft.

Here’s to the English student, brave and true,
Charting the chaos, with determination anew.
For in the pursuit of literature, there is rebirth
With the power of language we resculpt the Earth.
