Ode to a Morning Star

By Sakibur Rahman Arnab

Among the turmoil of our lives
And the sorrows that had been burdening us like bee hives,
Fate brought us together
Like a divine blessing amidst bleak and stormy weather
My life has been burdensome
Alienated and murky with the woe of lonesome
Your credence ignited a passion
Became the foundation of merriments
Of friendship, and of infatuation.
Your affection gave me serenity
I perceived an incipient love that I could give you for eternity.

Storms inflicted like a curse
In shadows of despair, situations got worse
The demon within me tends to destruct
By digging my own grave like a sinful deconstruct
I was young, yet with dubious rust
I couldn’t fixate on my discrepant blemishes and you started to distrust,
My follies and mistakes continue
Jeopardizing my faith and rectitude, I lost you.
Filled with remorse and grief-stricken burdens
I am still shattered in pieces bounded by forlorn chains.

A decade of grief has gone by,
Yet I am stagnant with memories in a shell that is damp and dry!
Like a sky obscured by clouds,
Your memories haunt me and the walls that surrounds
The solace that your presence provided
Has been my credence before we got segregated.
Soft lights heralding a new dawn
Ruminative yearning in the sky has been redrawn.
With no other ways to define
Even if I can’t have you in this life,
Maybe in the next, you’ll be mine.
